Foods That May Trigger the Symptoms of GERD
Frequent and persistent heartburn is the most common symptom of GERD.
Watching what you eat is important to help manage the condition.
Write down what you eat and when you experience heartburn to help identify which foods trigger
your heartburn. Some foods that are more commonly associated with triggering GERD symptoms
include:
- Chocolate
- Coffee, cola or tea
- Alcohol
- Citrus juices
- Tomato-based foods
- Spicy foods
- Fried foods
- Fatty foods
- Mint-flavored items
If you suffer from persistent heartburn two or more days a week, despite treatment and diet
changes, you could have GERD. Talk to your doctor. Only your doctor can diagnose GERD and
determine what treatment is right for you.
